Ok, like everyone else who just started to explore all about internet, there are times where we don’t have a clear idea of what is really a Domain and what’s the different of :-
1. Domain
2. Web Hosting
3. Website ( be it a blog, forum or just a personal web page … …etc )

( to those all seasoned webmasters, this is very simple as it is, so please pardon us the newbies here )

To those who are very raw/new/totally lost… …etc , and first time “getting to know all this”, I understand what you are into ! All those could sometime caused us getting into unclear picture. No problem at all dude, let me try to put them into very simple and plain words.

Domain
Most of us don’t have a clear idea of this when we first started. We simply just wanted to build our very own first webiste. But we don’t want to use those free webpage like yahoo, geocities…etc. We wanted to have :-

MyWebsiteForTheFirstTime.com ( this is for explanation purpose, website might not exist at this moment of time )

Having more control instead of a plain dead webpage.

More options and freedom to build our own website, more control on “how it should be” …etc

 

The very first step in getting your own website is to register a domain name. In this case it is “MyWebsiteForTheFirstTime.com” . This “domain” name ( MyWebsiteForTheFirstTime.com ) will be your very own online identity, and your visitors will be able to reach your site by typing “MyWebsiteForTheFirstTime.com” in their web browser. ( Please don’t ask me to explain what is web browser , you are using it day and night to surf internet right now ! )

So now, “Registering a domain name” means that :-
1. You Own It
2. You are able to use it for a web site
3. It belongs to you
4. You control the domain
5. You can now have your domain to be hosted and build your website with it!

Got it ?? This is the first step before you are going to build your website. I hope my explantion is correct.

Simple Questions and Answer :-

1. How are you going to register and own a domain ?

Search for more information for “registering a domain name” please ! ( I own this site/domain )

Yes, in most case you’ll need to pay for it, and NOPE…YOU ARE NOT PAYING ME !

You can Buy Domain Name ( or register for yearly payment. Search there for more information )

 

2. I thought you provide FREE SERVICE ?

I PROVIDE FREE WEB HOSTING , NOT FREE DOMAIN ! These are different !

 

3. I don’t want to pay to register and own a domain, BUT I SIMPLY WANT TO USE IT !
=> emmm… …2 choices :-

a. Use my FREE sub-domain . eg yourdomain.suggestionsite.com , MyWebsiteForTheFirstTime.suggestionsite.com , whatsoever.suggestionsite.com …etc ; or

b. Free lunch is not enough for you ?! You want FREE LOBSTER too !? NO PROBLEM => Email me and tell me why I should provide a free domain for you. No worry, I am a real person, I am not a robot But I will only reply you if you are genuine, and don’t expect me to spoon feed you

 

4. “WHO” the hell do I pay for registering your domain name ?

You pay those domain registrar/company like :- Godaddy.com, Netfirms.com , and a lot more of those ! It’s YOUR CHOICE !

You PAY THEM NOT ME ! I don’t own your domain name, I don’t control your domain name or whatsoever ! GOT IT ??

 

5. Which Domain Registrar do you recommand ?

I DO NOT recommand any of them ! I am not in any financial gain by stating these registrars ( at this moment of time )

Yes I do use them to register my domains . I am using Godaddy.com and Yahoo Domain currently. But this does not means that I recommand them. It is totally up to your own choice .

 

Next => Web Hosting
For people to be able to see your web site, it must be stored/hosted somewhere accessible. I provide this storage space in the form of a webspace account. You can store your web site on this space, and use the hosting panel ( we offer cpanel ) to build/control your website.

Simple Pointers/Notes/Questions and Answers :-

1. Web hosting is only required if you want to have a website that you could have more control, unlike those “webpage” like geocities, yahoo…etc.

2. You can use/have your very own email address like :- admin@MyCoolWebsiteForTheFirstTime.com , yourname@MyCoolWebsiteForTheFirstTime.com …etc

3. What else am I able to do with Hosting Account ?

4. I’ve got my own domain, and got my account APPROVED here ! What’s next ?

=> ok… …seems that some of you might STILL NOT FULLY CLEAR ! As I mentioned and stated VERY CLEARLY, YOU NEED TO COMPLETE BOTH STEP 1+2 before account is approved.

For those valuable members who had got their account activated and APPROVED, the below are some guide to help you getting started to enjoy our service :-

Getting Your New Account

COMPLETE BOTH STEP 1+2 TO GET ACCOUNT APPROVE

In step 2, get your new account verified thru the email that our system sent to your registered email address

Upon completion of both steps, our backend will generate report to verify.

WE WILL ONLY APPROVE ACCOUNT THAT HAD COMPLETED BOTH STEP 1+2 !

Your new account information and some basic information/guides will be sent to your email AFTER WE VERIFY OUR BACKEND REPORT AND CONFIRM !

WELCOME ABOARD

 

Login to your account’s cPanel ( comes with our web hosting service )

1. If you use our sub-domain :-

– Access to your account cPanel at :- youraccount.suggestionsite.com/cpanel or youraccount.juztalk.com/cpanel

– Input your account username and password

– You have DONE IT ! Congrat !

 

2. If you use your own domain or any other sub-domain(s) :-

Update your domain DNS record in your domain registrar.

Input our nameserver into your domain DNS :-

• NS1.SUGGESTIONSITE.COM
• NS2.SUGGESTIONSITE.COM

Please note that it could takes up to 72hours for your domain to propagate properly before your can access your account cPanel in our server. In normal case, it only takes about 1hour or less !

Login your account cPanel at :- yourdomain.com/cpanel

Input your account username and password

You have DONE IT ! Congrat !

 

What to do next ?

After login to your account’s cPanel, click on the “File Manager”

You have reach the files/folders section for your new account

Click on the “public_html” folder

Delete these files :- “index.html” and “postinfo.html”

Important :- DO NOT DELETE “public_html” folder ! You website will not work if this folder is deleted!

 

Anything else?

THAT’S ALL ! No more trouble

You are now ready to start building your site!

Install a WordPress Blog and try it out to get a feel !

 

Accessing Your Account via FTP

Open your favourite FTP application ( we use SmartFTP Client, it’s easy and FREE ! )/li>

Input your domain or sub-domain into the “Address” field, username in the “Login” field , password in the “PassWord” field. In the “Port” field, input 21

Hit “enter” button. It will login to our server for your account

On the left section, you’ll see the files/folders in tree structure

Click on the “public_html” folder. This is where you should start building/putting your files/folders into.

No more…you are ready to upload your files/folders !

(remember to delete the “index.html” and “postinfo.html” files if you are accessing your site for the first time

 

 

What scripts that your server could support?

Our server support all general script, unless you have a custom script written in new programming language that’s not available anywhere.

Generally, for php coded forum scripts (eg, SMF,phpBB, IPB, vBulletin, PHP-Nuke, YaBB, BBS, Discuz…etc), you need to TURN OFF “GZIP” in the admin section or it will not work properly. This is due to “mod_layout” that we install in server to display our ads in free hosting service.

For latest/new members, there is no need to TURN OFF “GZIP” for PHP Coded Script, simply because it is now Ads FREE

 

 

Can members request to have those ads removed ? Well, member’s sites are beautiful without those ads isn’t it !
